Yellowstone (On the way back)

On the way back, we spotted an elk on the roadside, but it's another female again.....so....no horn...

Hey, Ms. Elk, where's all the male elks?

So, Chief, do u see any elk or deer with horn?
hmm...no? then we go look for that ourselves then.

You know why it's always fun to go on a road trip? It's because you can always discover something you have never seen or heard about.

Wanta try some atomic burger?
We passed by a small town "Arco" on the Hwy 20. This town was the first place on earth that used nuclear power for electricity use. in 1955. And here is also the site of the first fatal nuclear accident in 1961.

Yellowstone is now in my favorite list. It reminds me the road trip a few years ago, and I hope that I can bring her to Yellowstone, some day....hopefully...

Yellwostone, August 4, (Oldfaithful)

Old faithful

It's the most popular attraction in Yellowstone, and it's known worldwide for its geyser which erupts water up to 30 to 55 m. (about 10 levels high) The eruption occurs in an interval of about every 90mins and lasts for around 5 mins.

There are also some hot springs and geysers around, and here are some pictures.

These two look like volcanoes.

Another nice eruption from one the geysers. The eruption is about 6ft high.
Now u see...

Now u don't

Yellowstone August 2, Part 3 (Canyon n West Thumb)

Canyon
We missed the entrance to the best spot to see the canyon and water fall....instead, we went real close to the waterfall.

Yah I know it's not a big waterfall, but this place is not famous of its waterfall, but the canyon. I didn't get a chance to see the canyon.

West Thumb Geyser Basin
the difference between geysers and hot springs is that water in the geysers is squeezed underground and there forced to erupt which makes a tall water beam in the air like a water fountain.

Wanta swim in this beautiful blue pool? please look carefully to the far end of the pool.
See the steam?

The color difference is caused by the different kinds of bacterium living there because of the different pH value of the water.

One of the geysers in this area.

p.s.
At the West Thumb we noticed a forest fire at the other side of the lake. It reminds me the Yellowstone Fire of 1988. This fire burned down 36% of the forest in the whole national park and caused losses of human and animal lives. This year is the 20th anniversary of this huge fire.

I hope this fire won't cause alot of damages to the national park.

Mud Volcano

It's not a real volcano. It's just another geyser but it erupts mud instead of water.....so.....it stinks more......really....it stinks....imagine....u hv a boiled egg n leave it a container for 1 week....then smell it.....or someone frats in ur face......

Yellowstone August 2, Part 2

I think this picture is an awesome pic of the national park landscape.

As I said except tourist attractions, one of the main point for me to go to yellow is to see the wildlife. SOoooooo...Here we go Group of Bisons~~~~~~~YEah~~~~~

Hello, Mr. Bison, How're you today?
Yah, It's hot today, eh.

Having fun with the Bison Traffic Jam~

In Yellowstone, we don't count sheeps, we count Bisons
1 Bison, 2 Bisons, 3Bisons, 4 Bi......ZZZzzz......

p.s. It's not safe to approach bisons or any wild animals. I risk my own life to went close to bisons and took pictures-_-

Yellowstone August 2, Part 1

The second day the best day in the entire trip because we saw the most animals that day.
Just a little while after I woke up, I spotted a deer in our camping area. As I'm curious nature lover, I couldn't miss any chance to take a picture of any animals, but I didn't get too close to the deer. First, because I don't wanta disturb the pretty deer lady's breakfast time, and second, it's always not safe to approach too close to wild animals.

How I know this deer is a female? Because male deers have horns, and female deers don't.
Then on the way to the Mammoth Hot Spring, we spotted another animal. It's a squirrel like tiny animal called "Pika".
Pika, Pika, Pikaccchhhuuuuuuuuu

Mammoth Hot Spring

Wanta do some hot spring bathing? SOrry to tell ya....It's 170'F (76'C)

Don't cook yourself~

Pretty color variation on the hill top

The nice layering of the rock.

Yellowstone National Park Trip Aug1,2008.

Last weekend, my sister, her bf, and I went to Yellowstone national park located in 3 states Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. This place is known for the forest, wildlife, and geological features . I had heard a lot about this place, and I finally got a chance to go to my dream land.

Our plan was to visit the northern loop which includes the Norris, Mammoth, Tower junction and the Canyon Village, and the southern loop which includes the Yellowstone Lake Area, Grant Village, West Thumb and the most famous attraction "Old Faithful".
Here is our entrance "Yellowstone National Park"

The first day we camped at the Canyon Campground. Remember It's an adventure to the nature, so we didn't stay in the hotel.

These two are our tents, and the blue one is mine. I was so glad that I had my own tent, and didn't need to sleep with my sis and her fatty bf.

Black bears and Grizzly bears are the Bears that can be seen in Yellowstone. Our campsite was located in one of the bears area, but we didn't see any bears......or luckily we didn't see any....

Our trip finally really started we set up our tents. We didn't have enough time so we only Drove north to visit the Tower Fall.

I didn't take this picture very well, but you can still see the different level of erosions of the rocks beside the water fall.

Then we hiked down to the bottom of the water fall. When we reached there, we all smelt a strong bad egg smell. We thought someone fart....but it's not...
Actually the smell is from the sulfur gas from the hot spring around.
Beside the egg smell, you can see color variation on the hill, it's because of the different amount of sulfur contents in the rocks.

On the way back to the came site I took some pictures at some overview points. Yellowstone nature beauty really amazed me~

This is an overview at the bottom of Mt. Washburn.
